A lot of people dread the big summer crossovers, but to me, they're just a fact of comics life, they happen every year, some better ("Fall of the Mutants"), some worse ("Onslaught").
What do you guys think of this years crossovers?

At Marvel, the shapeshifting alien Skrulls have infiltrated the ranks of Marvel's superheroes, and have sprung an ambush in "Secret Invasion" Who's a skrull? Who isn't? Haha, unless they're some surprises, I think I figured it out already. Anybody have any predictions? I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Over at DC, Grant Morrison is at the helm of what is purported to be the "Final Crisis". I'm not sure at all yet what this is about, other than that Darkseid and the New Gods figure heavily. The first issue left me underwhelmed, but the sketchbook was incredible. I hope the rest of the series lives up to it...

  • Secret Invasion, though I havn't reda it yet, seems like more of the same from Marvel. I bet there'll be no solid conclusion like the last three events. But there is an up side to it. This is finally, after four years or so, the truth behind the Secret War (not the classic on... the recent one) its why Nick Fury went into hiding. I'm hoping for some plot development with the Marvel universe as a whole, but other than layering new plot threads over old, they havn't done much of that in recent years, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Now Final Crisis looks promising. Let's just set aside that its Grant Morrison's last hoorah before his announced two year Hiatus. That its his chance to lay the groundwork for the entire DC universe in what in the future will be called Post-Final-Crisis... or maybe Post-Morrison. The thing that really excites me the most about it really is how seamlessly the beginning of this (in issue one) ties together with Mister Miracle... the miniseries from Gant Morrison's epic Seven Soldiers Crossover mini-event. in fact there is evidence that the seven soldiers and events depicted there will work their way into the story quite a bit. in every other event since Seven Soldiers, they've been featured, but never part of the action. In pivitol issues of 52, Countdown, and Infinite Crisis The seven soldiers would appear anomalously in large group shots in the background, and narration boxes would say things like "It was the year the Seven Soldiers returned to us..." Grant Morrison has a real talent for tying together disperate threads. these threads are his, he's about to go on a two year break, and he seldom fails to write things I love. I'm waiting with baited breath for the next issue. plus: sweet cover! I hope they're all iconic figures rendered with crazy love!
