World War Hulk

...is just about the best superhero story, (including Planet Hulk) I've read in last ten years. The writer Grek Pak did a wonderful job building the whole thing up through the months before the Hulk's return and really gives you a feel for the loss the Hulk feels, after finally finding a place where he not only fits in, but is loved and appreciated for what he is, then seeing it all torn away from him. He's pissed!

Are you guys reading this?

Heck yeah but it's seriously impacted my comic budget... sooo many tie ins. I have to admit I love some of those guys getting the crap kicked out of them by the enraged Hulk. The illuminati guys needed someone to knock them down a peg or 3 :)

Yep. PH and WWH are all very good. I got the X-Men tie in. Which is basically a 3 issue fight.

          Whooboy!

It started with the Illuminati. Apparently, since the early days of Marvel, there has been a secret group of superheroes who come togethor every so often to examine the broader implications of the super-powered world, and if necessary, take action. They are Dr. Strange, Professor X, Iron Man, Prince Namor, Reed Richards and Black Bolt. After 90% of Earth's mutants were de-powered after the House of M storyline, certain members of the Illuminati, (all but Namor,) decided it was time to take a more active role in securing the world from super-powered threats, (which ultimately led to the Civil War.) Their first act -- get rid of the Incredible Hulk.

Richards, Stark, Strange, and Black Bolt blasted the Hulk into deep space, where he landed on alien world where he was forced to battle to the death in an arena of gladiators. And in the Planet Hulk storyline, the Hulk of course, conquers his enemies and rises to become king of this new world, even taking a queen. For once, the Hulk was at peace.

But a technical malfunction in the ship he arrived in caused an explosion, which destroyed his world and killed his queen, filling the Hulk with a burning rage greater than he has ever felt before, also making him stronger than he's ever been. Gathering to him a group of his fiercest warrirors, the Hulk returns to Earth to heap revenge upon those who caused his pain -- the Illuminati.

It's great stuff, larger than life, straight-forward, good old fashioned violent smash-em-up superheroics. Check it out!

            Wow, that sounds awesome.

Hulk was my favorite comic and I followed it for about 10 years. I lost interest after Peter David and Marvel split ways. (although I hear that he came back for a year or so)

Is Betty Ross still dead? What manifestation of himself is the Hulk now? Savage Hulk? Professor Hulk? Something new?

The current Hulk is a sort of pissed off smart Hulk, not a complete moron, but definitely not a super-genius, his rage gets in the way of him thinking straight. Betty's still dead as far as I know, but I didn't read a lot of the Bruce Jones run, which I hear was actually pretty good.
